Mountain hike on April 20

The tour is explicitly part of the workshop. It will give ample opportunity for discussions between participants. When physicists go to the mountains, the usually deal with anything from cable cars to quantum mechanics as long as they have some breath left ;-)

The hike will be organized with minibuses and private cars. We will go to climb the Herzogstand near Kochel am See and Walchensee. The ascent on foot to the summit restaurant takes two hours for the sportsmen, a few minutes by cable car for the less ambitious. In two more hours, weather permitting, we pass the summit of Herzogstand and walk the rim to the neighbouring Heimgarten. Another 1.5 hours takes us back to the cars. The less-good-on-foot take the cable car down. The first part of the path can be done even in light snow conditions (although we expect spring weather), the cable car will be running in any weather. The tour will be adapted according to the weather conditions and fitness of the participants. The tour is not difficult and never dangerous.

If you wish to participate in the walk, you MUST bring good walking shoes with ANKLE SUPPORT. Low sport shoes without ankle support are NOT ACCEPTABLE. Please consider that Bavarians never use low shoes when going to the mountains, as a sprained ankle can spoil all your fun.

Pictures will be posted on www.isnr.de soon. Refer to http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herzogstand, http://www.steinmandl.de/Homepage.htm?Benediktenwand.htm#Herzogstand,

In case of really bad weather, we will go to the Deutsches Museum in Munich instead, the largest technical museum in the world.
