27th cycle ended ahead of time
After a short fluctuation of current of the external supply, the FRM II was shut down on Saturday, March 24th. The 27th cycle thus ended ahead of time.
The fluctuation of current in the power supply of the neutron source on Saturday, March 24th, at 16.29h was probably caused by a thunder storm in the north of Munich. Similar events usually force the neutron source to shut down automatically. The security systems acted as foreseen.
The 27th cycle thus ends ahead of time, the remaining operational days will unfortunately be omitted. With regard to the planned maintenance break previous to the 28th cycle, the neutron source could not put back into operation again. Otherwise, the schedule for the whole year 2012 could not have been fulfilled.
The next cycle will start as planned on April 17th. Numerous national and international scientists have already scheduled their measurements for this period.
