- PhD positionThe focus will lie on the magnetic and martensitic behaviour of specific Heusler alloys. By appropriate heat treatments, different states of short- and long-range order can be adjusted, which will then be investigated by macroscopic methods such as calorimetry or magnetization, as well as neutron and X-ray scattering and diffraction, with specific consideration to the phase transitions. The observed dependence of, e.g., the magnetic structure on the microscopic state of order shall then also be rationalized by simple models of the system on its fundamental scale of site occupations, atomic positions and spins, and optionally reproduced by theoretical methods.
