In a memorandum of understanding, the directors of the neutron source Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II) in Garching, Germany, and the future European Spallation Source ESS in Lund, Sweden, defined a far-reaching cooperation.
By means of investigations performed at the hot single crystal diffractometer HEiDI at FRM II, Dr. Marc Janoschek demonstrated that the magnetic structure of the multiferroic material neodymium ferroborate is a monochiral magnetic helix.
Rechargeable batteries may soon provide greater energy efficiency not only for road traffic, but also for rail transport.
The FRM II will play an active role in an international research programme on alternative techniques to helium-3 based detectors.
The DFG Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation) intensifies its commitment to neutron research at the FRM II.
The first experiment using the lowest temperatures and an external magnetic field has successfully been performed at the thermal three axis spectrometer PUMA.
Molecules in a cell membrane move in a flowing motion in clusters rather than jumping individually into any empty spaces they find. This is what Sebastian Busch and Dr. Tobias Unruh have proven with data obtained from the TOFTOF at the FRM II.
At the pupils' day of the Technische Universität München eleven pupils took the opportunity to visit the neutron source. They were fascinated by the guided tour with Günter Riegel.
JCNS School on Data Analysis with FRIDA
The Jülich Centre for Neutron Science offers a school on data analysis with FRIDA on April 28th and 29th. Registration is necessary until March 15th 2010.
The year 2010 will be a year of construction at the neutron source FRM II. Neutrons will be provided on 203 days.
