Safety Concept

According to the regulations of nuclear law the main objectives of nuclear safety are:

  1. The reactor must be safely shut down under all circumstances.
  2. The decay heat must be safely removed in all situations.
  3. No inadmissible release of radioactivity to the environment must occur.

In addition to fulfilling the legal safety requirements, the plant is able to cope with extreme and very unlikely accidents due to a combination of inherent safety features and engineered safety features:

  1. Inherent safety features
  2. Engineered safety features
    1. Two independent shut-down systems
    2. Cooling system
  3. No release of radioactivity
    1. Fuel plates
    2. Pool water
    3. Reactor building.

In all of the hypothetical scenarios no evacuation of the population would be necessary even in the very near vicinity of the reactor. The objectives names above are met by a combination of passive and active safety features.
