Installations in the pool

Section of the reactor and spent fuel pool (Copyright: FRM II/TUM)

The pool of FRM II is divided into two parts:

the reactor and the storage pool.

They contain a total of 700 m³ of desalinated water and can be separated one from the other by a sluice gate.

Many of the facilities essential to the operation of the FRM II are located directly in the pool, in particular, the fuel element with shutdown systems and the moderator tank, as well as the secondary sources, parts of the cooling circuits, extensive monitoring and control instrumentation and a variety of auxiliary and ancillary systems.
