Due to the long maintenance break, the next deadline for proposals was shifted. You have got the possibility to submit proposals in order to get beam time at all instruments operated at the FRM II until January 27^th, 2012. We look forward receiving your proposals - please submit them using the module Proposal within your personal user account!

We are very happy to announce the end of the long maintenance break: On October 29^th, 2011, the reactor reached 20 MW and neutrons are available at the instruments. Just have a look at the special issue of the FRM II newsletter!

Due to the maintenance break, the reactor operation is limited in 2011. 

For example, the positron source had to be refurbished: For the production of positrons, high energy gamma-rays are produced by neutron capture in a Cadmium cap mounted inside the nose of the inclined beam tube SR11. After five years of operation, the most of the absorbing ¹¹³Cd-Isotope were burned up, and hence the positron intensity decreased. In order to prolongate the life time of the source, isotope enriched Cd will be used in the new beam tube.
