Call for Proposals: Round 11
2010: Reduced operation of the FRM II
Due to the refurbishment of the positron source, the reactor operation will be limited in 2010.
For the production of positrons, high energy gamma-rays are produced by neutron capture in a Cadmium cap mounted inside the nose of the inclined beam tube SR11. After five years of operation, the most of the absorbing 113Cd-Isotope will be burned up, and hence the positron intensity will decrease. In order to prolongate the life time of the source, isotope enriched Cd will be used in the new beam tube.
In 2010 we are planning to run 3,5 cycles in order to deliver 203 days of beam time for scientific and industrial applications.
