User Meeting 2012
March 23
The FRM II is member of a network of European neutron facilities called the Integrated Infrastructure for Neutron Scattering and Muon Spectroscopy (NMI3).
The NMI3 project is supported by the European Commission through the 7th Framework Programme and it is part of the Research Infrastructures action of the Capacities Programme. (Contract No. 226507).
It brings together 21 partners from 13 countries, including ten research infrastructures.
General
Within the NMI3 activity, the FRM II has received funds for Transnational Access, foreseen for support of external FRM II users coming from EU member states or associated states.
The EU funds provide free access to the FRM II facility and provide support for travel and subsistence expense for usually two young scientists per experiment. Upon consultation with the FRM II User Office, the stay can be extended for preparation and data reduction.
Criteria for Eligibility
To be eligible to benefit from the Access to the FRM II under the NMI3 action, a user group must satisfy the following conditions:
- both the user group leader and the majority of the user group members must be affiliated to an institute located in a member state (except Germany) or in an associated state.
- Please note: the affiliation of the researchers is decisive, not their nationality!
- the user group is entitled to publicise all results of the EU NMI3 supported experiments.
Proposals
Please submit your proposal according to the actual Call for Proposals.
- Within your personal User Account at the FRM II Digital User Office you have to use the module "Proposal".
- Complete the form carefully with names and home institutions of the researchers expected to take part in the experiment, because this information is necessary for the eligibility check.
Review
Together with all submitted proposals those eligible for EU funding will be examined by the FRM II scientific panel.
The panel assesses the scientific merits of all proposals and decides on priorities and beam time allocation. A certain priority is given to
- young scientists,
- new neutron users and
- projects from countries, where no such neutron facility exists.
After the review was held, you will be informed if your proposal was accepted or not. When applying for your visit at the FRM II you get the possibility to ask for financial support via NMI3.
Acknowledgements
The NMI3 project must be acknowledged in any papers or conference proceedings that are published as a result of this work. The following paragraph should be included in the acknowledgments section:
"This research project has been supported by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme through the 'Research Infrastructures' action of the 'Capacities' Programme, Contract No: CP-CSA_INFRA-2008-1.1.1 Number 226507-NMI3."
Reports
The EU-report form must be completed promptly after the completion of the experiment.
- Please note that this report for the European Commision is separate from any experimental report required by the FRM II for other purposes.
- Please use the module "EU-Report NMI3" in your personal User Account at the FRM II Digital User Office for submitting your report.
- Please indicate the proposal number as reference.
EU Questionnaire
After the experiment, funded users are required to complete the web form in the EU data base: cordis.europa.eu/fp7/capacities/questionnaire_en.html
- From the DropDown-menu in line 1 select ‘NMI3 (226507)’.
- The “User Project Acronym” to be entered in line 2 of this form is formed by ‘FRM-II’ followed by the proposal number sent to you in the acceptance e-mail, e.g.: FRM-II_1234.
Personal Data
You are required to provide some personal data, which will be recorded and used for the purposes indicated below. The data will be processed for funding, statistical and administrative purposes connected with your research, and to statistically analyse the membership of the neutron scattering community. The data are collected by the NMI3 project manager on behalf of the European Commission, and therefore may be accessed by the NMI3 project coordinators and the European Commission for official use only, and will remain confidential. Your personal data will be kept safe and secure and will not be shared with other organisations without your knowledge, unless this is required by law.
If your e-mail address is requested, this is solely for the purpose of conducting a mid-term review if necessary, and it will not be divulged to any third party, or used for marketing purposes.
- Please complete the "User Data Form". You will find it in the folder you receive when arriving at FRM II. In case you lost it, you can find it on the Downloads-page. Have a look for Forms - NMI3.
Eligible countries for access to the FRM II
You can find a list of the EU member states and the associated states on the Pages of the NMI3- Portal.
