NMI3

Who can apply for support from the NMI3-program?

To get support via the FP7 NMI3 Contract No.: 226507-NMI3, a user group has to fulfil two conditions:

  • the group leader as well as the majority of the group members mustn't be from German institutions,
  • the group leader as well as the majority of the group members have to be from an EU country or an associated state.

Please note:

  • The main proposer is said to be the group leader.
  • The main proposer and the co-proposers are said to be the group.
  • For the definition of the users' category the nationality of the institution of the proposers is relevant (not their personal nationality). In case of mixed user groups majority rules apply.
    • A list of EU countries and associated states can be found here.

How can I ask for support?

    • When applying for a visit within the module "Arrival_Departure" you find the possibility to tick the checkbox Yes for "working in one of the EU member states or associated state (except Germany)".

    • You will be advised whether your visit will be supported or not via your user account when the User Office checked your eligibility.

Please note:

The user groups selected under this programme will benefit from compensation of travel expenses to Garching and costs of accommodation. Up to two users are supported per experiment.

What conditions do I have to agree with?

  • The NMI3 project must be acknowledged in any papers or conference proceedings that are published as a result of this work. The following paragraph should be included in the acknowledgments section:

"This research project has been supported by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme through the 'Research Infrastructures' action of the 'Capacities' Programme, NMI3-II Grant number 283883."
  • The EU-report form must be completed promptly after the completion of the experiment. Please note that this report for the European Commision is separate from any experimental report required by the facility for other purposes.
    • Please use the module EU-Report for submitting your report. Please indicate the proposal number as reference.
  • You are required to provide some personal data, which will be recorded and used for the purposes indicated below. The data will be processed for funding, statistical and administrative purposes connected with your research, and to statistically analyse the membership of the neutron scattering community. The data are collected by the NMI3 project manager on behalf of the European Commission, and therefore may be accessed by the NMI3 project coordinators and the European Commission for official use only, and will remain confidential. Your personal data will be kept safe and secure and will not be shared with other organisations without your knowledge, unless this is required by law.
If your e-mail address is requested, this is solely for the purpose of conducting a mid-term review if necessary, and it will not be divulged to any third party, or used for marketing purposes.
    • Please complete the "User Data Form". You will find it in the folder you receive when arriving at FRM II. In case you lost it, you can find it on the Downloads-page. Have a look for Forms - NMI3.
  • Don't forget to complete the web form cordis.europa.eu/fp7/capacities/questionnaire_en.html
    • From the DropDown-menu in line 1 select ‘NMI3 (226507)’.
    • The “User Project Acronym” to be entered in line 2 of this form is formed by ‘FRM-II’ followed by the proposal number sent to you in the acceptance e-mail, e.g.: FRM-II_1234.

What will be supported?

The financial support covers the period of the experiment and in addition a maximum of one day before and after the scheduled experiment. The travel costs for up to two persons will be reimbursed. That are for example:

  • Arrival and departure by plane/ train (class 2)
  • Use of public transportation (for arrival and departure as well as for trips between your hotel and the FRM II during your stay)
  • Costs for accommodation
    • please note, that the FRM II will book your accommodation, so please indicate this when applying for your visit via "Arrival_Departure"
    • in case you want to book a hotel room by yourself, please discuss this with the User Office in advance - otherwise the reimbursement of the whole amount can not be guaranteed.

Please note:

A journey to the FRM II by car will only be reimbursed in exceptional cases. You have to discuss this with the User Office well in advance and ask for a written consent. The reimbursement is not possible without this consent.

In case the experiment is carried out by more than two persons, it is the group's decision which two persons shall be supported. Those two persons have to match the criteria for eligibility mentioned above.
