Findings about fire damper during routine inspection

During the routine inspection of 120 fire dampers at the Research Neutron Source Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II) from April 20 to 24, it was found that one of these dampers did not close in accordance with their specifications.

The functionality of the fire damper was restored immediately during the inspection. All other FRM II fire dampers are now also being inspected as soon as possible.

The finding has no impact on the safety of the neutron source, the operating personnel and the environment. Radioactivity was not emitted.

The event was notified to the relevant supervisory authority, the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection, in according with the reporting criterion N (normal notification) and classified in the lowest level 0 of the international evaluation scale INES (no or very low safety significance).
