After a period dominated by virtual encounters and digital formats, participants at this year’s MLZ conference finally enjoyed face-to-face discussions again. With the motto “Neutrons for Mobility”, the event took up a highly relevant issue, bringing together researchers from the mobility and energy sectors with experts from the neutron scattering community and promoting a cross-disciplinary exchange.

Time to act on climate protection
In her presentation “Time to Act!” Prof. Daniela Jacob, Director of the Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS), spoke about the implications of further increasing CO2 emissions for the global community. In her powerful report, the climate scientist called on the scientific community to work on providing the technologies needed to meet this immense challenge.

Multidisciplinary meeting
The 27 presentations and 9 poster sessions covered a variety of mobility-related research areas, ranging from high-performance alloys to innovative batteries and porous membranes. The focus of the multidisciplinary meeting was on methods for neutrons as well as complementary approaches.

E-bike tour and hike at the social event
The organizers of the MLZ conference considered personal encounters and forming new contacts to be of great importance. The location in the Bavarian Alps invited the participants to take an e-bike tour or a scenic hike as part of the “Social Event”. After a tour of a historic hydroelectric power plant, the researchers met in the evening to refresh themselves in the local gastronomy and exchange new ideas.
