Radioisotopes for industry
(Radio)isotopes are used frequently and for very different purposes. At the FRM II, the radioactive cobalt-60 is produced by neutron capture of the stable isotope cobalt-59. The irradiated co-disks or wires are primarily used to produce preparations that are used in density or level measuring devices and for calibration, but also for sterilization or the fluoroscopy of welding seams.
