13th JCNS laboratory course „Neutron scattering“

Allgemein, Aktuell, Wissenschaft | 15.04.2009

The Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS) organises in cooperation with Technische Universität München (TUM), University of Münster and RWTH Aachen a laboratory course in neutron scattering from September 7th till 18th.

At the experimental part of the laboratory, students can work on the instruments of FRM II, like on the single crystal diffratometer HeiDi of Dr. Martin Meven. picture: Schürmann

Registration is possible until May 17th. The laboratory course, which is open for students (also from the TUM) in physics, chemistry, biosciences and geosciences after the first diploma (Vordiplom or equivalent) will consist of lectures and an experimental section. The lectures will encompass an introduction into neutron sources, into scattering theory and instrumentation. Furthermore, selected topics of condensed matter research will be presented.

The lectures will be held during the first week at the Forschungszentrum Jülich. The experimental part, which also lasts one week, will take place at the neutron source FRM II in Garching.

Forschungszentrum Jülich supports non-local students with free accommodation and half board. Travel stipendia for foreign students are available.

Registration is open until May 17th:
