Colloquium in honour of Winfried Petry

Aktuell, Allgemein, Wissenschaft | 24.06.2011

The neutron source FRM II and the chair E13 of the physics department honoured Prof. Dr. Winfried Petry in a colloquium on the occasion of his 60th birthday.

Prof. Dr. Winfried Petry (2.f.r.) with his wife Ria Claes and daughter Sarah Petry (l.) and the director of the Bavarian Ministry for Science, Dr. Adalbert Weiß (r.).

The director of the Bavarian ministry for research, Dr. Adalbert Weiß, spoke the welcoming words in the name of minister Dr. Wolfgang Heubisch. He praised the ability Petry's, to explain neutron science to ordinary persons. In the speech of the president of the Technische Universität München, Petry was named a science communicator. And the dean of the physics department Prof. Dr. Martin Stutzmann highlighted the "dynamics" of Winfried Petry, both in research and in every day life.

The invited talks also dealt with dynamics in research. They were given by Prof. Dr. Gero Vogl (Universität Wien), Prof. Dr. Richard Wagner (Institut Laue-Langevin Grenoble) and Prof. Dr. Andreas Mayer (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt). The latter surprised Winfried Petry with a parabolic flight, on which he can participate. The FRM II and the chair E13 staff presented their boss with a mosaic of pictures and a weekend at a winery. Prof. Dr. Peter Müller-Buschbaum had organized  a Special Issue of the Journal of Physics Condensed Matter (vol. 23, No. 25). After the talks, the 320 guests were invited to a buffet.
