Corrosion on bushings in two fittings in the heavy water system

Aktuell, Allgemein | 11.02.2011

Since end of October 2010 the Garchinger Forschungs-Neutronenquelle (FRM II) is in a schdueld revision phase.

Amongst others two fittings in the currently empty heavy water system underwent an inner visual inspection checked. During this inspection corrosion on the bushing which are in contact whith the heavy water was found.

The fittings were still fully functional, but will be replaced against others made from a material with higher corrosion resistance.

These findings were reported under the criterium N 2.1.2 as two components were affectedThe incident was reported to the authorities on 8.2.2011 in the category "N" (=normal) and classifed as INES = 0 in the International Nuclear Event Scale (No Safety Significance).Es it was a part under maintenance no neagtive effects for the plant, the workers or the enviroment occured.
