He succeeds Dr. Ingo Neuhaus, who changed for the nuclear power plant in Krümmel. Neuhaus headed the operation of the neutron source since 2006.
Anton Kastenmüller did his doctorate in experimental nuclear physics at the chair E12 of the physics department of the Technische Universität München. He constructed a detector at the accelerator of the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research. Starting from 2001, Anton Kastenmüller worked for the neutron source in Garching. First, he worked as scientific assistant in the detector- and electronics laboratory of the FRM II and constructed instruments and systems before the nuclear start-up. Three years ago, Anton Kastenmüller was appointed head of the department “reactor enhancement”. He was in charge of the revision procedures according to the atomic law, as for example the successful conversion of the new neutron guide hall east into the atomic law, and he effected the permission and operating licence for the tumour treatment facility at the FRM II.
Since the beginning of this year, Dr. Anton Kastenmüller is the permanent deputy of the Technical Director at the neutron source. Now, he has been appointed to the new Technical Director backdated to April 1st.
His foremost goal is the reliable and secure operation of the neutron source in Garching. The more, Dr. Kastenmüller wants to lay the foundations for the increasing number of scientific and commercial neutron users, to guarantee successful and international renowned research projects.
