Beteween 10 and 18 h, 29 groups with 15 persons each had the chance to visit the neutron source. Nevertheless, people lined up outside the building of the physics department to register for the tours in the late morning of October 15th. When the tours were fully booked, the visitors' service offered dates for separate tours, as the neutron source can also be visited throughout the year.
The FRM II staff did only tours offer on the open day: Talks were given by Dr. Ralph Gilles, Dr. Christoph Hugenschmidt, Dr. Birgit Loeper, Dr. Heiko Gerstenberg, Dr. Anton Kastenmüller and Prof. Dr. Winfried Petry in the lecture halls of the physics department. Many interested vistors listened to the presentations about positrons, tumour treatment using neutrons, silicion doping, industrial applications, research highlights and the safety concept of the FRM II. The booth of the FRM II radiation protection also attracted many curious visitors.
