On February 11th 2008, Prof. Dr. Winfried Petry received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. On the occasion of the award by the States Minister Dr. Thomas Goppel the merits of Prof. Petry were accentuated in the area of basic science and the realisation of the FRM II and its instrumentation. Prof. Petry has engaged himself in the public and scientific community for a long period to promote the realisation of the FRM II. By this he has rendered outstanding services to science and research and therefore for the public welfare, Minister Goppel said.
