Between the reactor cycles and after the end of the fourth cycle, maintainance works will take place this year.
In the maintainance break starting from October, additionally the exchange of two beam tubes is planned: One beam tube, that leads to the positron source NEPOMUC of the FRM II, will be replaced. The cadmium in the beam tube, that generates the antiparts of the electrons, is exhausted after five years. Another thimble will be reconstructed such that it can be used for the production of medically important radioisotopes.
The neutron source FRM II was shut down for the Christmas break on December 23rd and has started on January 11th.
In the year 2009, the FRM II delivered neutrons to its 1000 users on 237 days. 3139 non-scientific guests visited the institute in the previous year.
