Currently, the procedure for obtaining the storage license of FRM II’s fuel elements in the interim storage facility in Ahaus is continuing. The Society of Nuclear-Service (GNS) as operator of the interim storage facility presents at present the relevant documents to the Federal Office for Radiation Protection ago.
This way of disposal is part of the operating license of the FRM II. The Technische Universität München (TUM) as operator of the neutron source Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II) has therefore charged the GNS with carrying out the process even before the commissioning of the FRM II. Once the application for the licensing process of the transport and storage container under traffic law was recently filed GNS has also resumed the procedure for obtaining the storage license reinstated. According to current planning, the first transports will take place in 2018.
