At the beginning of this year, a new in-pile Gamma-converter and Pt-moderator were installed at the neutron induced positron source NEPOMUC. The intensity of the 1 keV positron beam amounts to 9.0±0.8 · 108 moderated positrons per second and is hence the world highest intensity of a mono-energetic positron beam reported so far.
Up to now, no degradation of the positron source yield has been observed for several weeks of operation. Thus, the long-term stability of the positron beam enables experiments with high reliability. Presently, four spectrometers are connected to the high-intensity positron beam in order to perform a large variety of experiments in surface and solid state physics, materials science and nuclear physics.
