The Neutron Source opens its doors for children

Aktuell, Wissenschaft | 13.08.2018

3 October 2018 is dedicated to children and families: “Die Sendung mit der Maus”, (The Show with the Mouse), a well reputed children's series on German television, called for the nationwide 7th “Door-opener-day”. At the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum, too, doors that usually are closed for children will open.

“Learning Stories” are being presented live on Wednesday, 3 October, at the FRM II in Garching. The young Maus-Fans may select their favorite chemical element. While rebuilding an atomic model they get to know the structure and functions of neutrons and atoms. The children learn more about the mechanism of magnetism and can look forward to ice-cold experiments.

A unique door opens for the young scientist-to-be during the special children´s tour. They visit the research neutron source and its control-room and get to know some instruments in the Neutron Guide Hall. The tours are already fully booked.

During the “Door-opener-day” of “Sendung mit der Maus” children and families all over Germany are able to visit more than a hundred different institutions, enterprises, research labs, associations or factories for free.
