Open Day 2013

On October 19, 2013, the Research Neutron Source Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II) will open its doors from 11 a.m. and offers an insight into current research.
Guided tours
On guided tours, participants can get to know more about the Research Neutron Source of the Technical University of Munich. In the neutron guide hall and the experimental hall they can learn about how the basics of superconductivity are explored and how the magnetic properties of materials are examined.
The visitors also will hear about the applied research and industrial projects at the Research Neutron Source: Very homogeneously doped semiconductor material is produced on site which is used in transistors and diodes. Furthermore radioisotopes are developed and produced to serve in the field of radiological medicine.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the Neutron Source.
Duration of the tour: 60 minutes appr.
Please note:
- Minimum age 18 years
- Valid identity card or passport required
- For radiation protection reasons, the access of pregnant and breastfeeding women is not possible
- No cameras or cell phones allowed
- Sturdy shoes are recommended
