From 1994 to 2002 Gert von Hassel successfully fought for the realisation of the neutron source Heinz Maier-Leibnitz. Unfailingly he informed the local and German public with events, newspapers and publications about the use of the FRM II and its safety concept. Innumerable brochures about the neutron source are the material evidence of his effort. Until shortly before his sudden death, he worked on a new brochure about the FRM II, whose completion he unfortunately cannot experience anymore.
Gert von Hassel's death is a great bereavement for the FRM II. The staff will always keep him in memory as a creative and strong-willed pioneer of the neutron source in Garching.
