The way to conversion

As the operator of the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Research Neutron Source (FRM II), the Technical University of Munich is actively researching new high-density nuclear fuels and modeling compact reactor cores in an international cooperation. The aim is to reduce uranium enrichment in fuel elements of high-performance research reactors such as the FRM II: from the current 93% U-235 to less than 20% U-235 (low enriched uranium, LEU). The application for approval of the conversion was submitted as planned.
